Frequently Asked Questions
What does the word FAZL mean?
Fazl is an Urdu word that means “grace.” Urdu, like Hindi, is a language spoken in India.
What is the Himalayan Children’s Troupe?
The Himalayan Children's Troupe is a group of 10 rural children and 7 adults from North India who have spent months preparing a special performance. Their goal is to bring powerful stories of transformation to Canada during the winter of 2024-2025. Through vibrant dances, songs, and personal testimonies, the Troupe offers an unforgettable experience that transports audiences to the heart of North India.
How long is the performance?
The performance can either be a full 60-minute program, which includes singing, media, and messages, or a shorter 30-minute version.
What can we expect from the performance?
Get ready to experience the vibrant and colorful culture of India right in your own community! Ten children, along with a few adults, will share their rich traditions through dance, song, and personal stories. This will not only be an unforgettable cultural experience but will also create life-changing opportunities for families in India.
What do we need from a church or venue?
-
Performance: The ability to perform on the confirmed date.
-
Accommodation: Either or host families or a place to stay at the venue for the children and staff to spend one or two nights (they have all the necessary gear and equipment to stay on-site). The group consists of 10 children and 7 adults.
-
Technical Support: Provide an onsite technician to assist with sound and lighting.
-
Special Offering: We ask for a one-time contribution, which is entirely voluntary. There is no specific amount expected.
-
Meals: If possible, we ask you to help us with some meals for the group. Our staff will assist with meal preparation to keep things simple if needed.
How should the one-time donation be directed after the performance?
It is entirely up to the hosts to decide what works best. Logistically, it would be easier for us if the host collects the donation and writes a cheque to the Fazl Foundation. This will also be a formal donation for which we will issue a donation receipt.
How are funds used that are raised on this tour?
The Fazl Foundation supports orphans, widows, and the oppressed in every way possible. The funds raised during this tour will be allocated to the following initiatives:
-
Support orphanages, including food, shelter and education.
-
Construction Projects: Funding the building of essential facilities, including a school and a dormitory.
-
Uplifting Women: Offering assistance and opportunities to women, particularly widows, to improve their quality of life.
-
Relief Work: Distributing food and basic necessities to those who are in urgent need.
Is this their first time in Canada?
Yes, indeed! This is the first time for all members of the Troupe. They are thrilled with the opportunity to see this part of the world and share their journey with us.
Where are the children coming from?
Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
How do you ensure safety and manage risk for the children on tour?
For the safety and risk management of the children, we maintain a 2:1 child-to-adult ratio, with all adults having criminal record checks. We also have internal policies that prevent any single child and adult from being alone together. Additionally, girls are supervised by female leaders and boys by male leaders. Many of the staff involved grew up in the children's homes we support and are now giving back. All Canadian staff members also have criminal record checks.
How old is The Fazl Foundation Charity?
Although our organization is new, our founders have been serving in India for almost ten years. Our sister organization, Fazl Socks, is a Fair-Trade company based in Kelowna that helps provide sustainable employment to artisans in remote regions of the Himalayas. Fazl Socks also donates its profits to supporting orphanages in India.
Can I sponsor a child?
Yes, we offer several sponsorship opportunities:
-
Child Sponsorship
-
Community Development (e.g., medical assistance, education, disaster relief, etc.)
-
Special Projects (e.g., building projects, schools, etc.)
